Ice Cream Activities for Kids

The weather is getting warmer and we are getting closer to the end of the school year. That means ABC countdowns are well underway for some teachers. It’s likely that one of your upcoming themed days is “ice cream day”. Oh, this is surely a favorite for many students. Eating ice cream is obviously the goal, but why not fit some academics into the mix as well?

This ice cream cone sequencing craftivity is fun and incorporates elementary computer science standards and writing into a cute craft your students will love. The students are tasked with sequencing pictures of how to make an ice cream cone and then writing the step by step directions. For your kiddos that may struggle with the writing portion, the picture sequencing alone will allow them to complete this activity independently and feel successful. Once your students have created their ice cream cones, they will want to take them home to show them off. If you are lucky enough to keep them at school, they make great end of the year bulletin boards that are bursting with summer vibes.

You can also have students complete the ice cream cone algorithm activity without the craft. This version has students sequence pictures of how to make an ice cream cone and then write the step by step directions.

Once your students have mastered the concept of the algorithm and you’d like to take things a step further with elementary computer science standards, you can introduce them to debugging activities. The ice cream cone algorithm is also included in the debugging activities so the students will be familiar with it.
