End of the Year Unplugged Coding Camp

As the end of the school year approaches, you may be in search of fun yet educational activities that will keep your students engaged. Incorporating unplugged computer science concepts into your daily routine is not only interesting, it is part of the important foundational knowledge that students will need as artificial intelligence and technology become more and more in demand in the workforce.

Use this bundle to incorporate unplugged coding basics with a fun camping/summer theme at the end of the school year or as a summer enrichment activity! Pro tip: If there are any activities I haven’t gotten around to completing with the students in class, I will send some of them home in a summer practice packet. I like to touch on each activity at least once in class so the students have an understanding of what to do before sending anything home with them.

This bundle is designed to include lots of camping/summer themed unplugged coding activities that will integrate well with whatever end of the year theme days you may already be planning. For example, the Differentiated Algorithms include topics like making lemonade, putting up a tent, building a sandcastle, making an ice cream cone, and applying sunscreen.

If you enjoy the differentiated algorithms activities but would like a craft to go along with them or something you can display on bulletin boards, be sure to check out the Summer Algorithms Crafts!

Once students understand the concept of creating algorithms, you can introduce them to debugging. The Debugging Algorithms activities pair with the themes of the differentiated algorithms activities so students will be familiar with them. The debugging activities are super simple but give young students the chance to look for mistakes in the algorithms and then fix them.

Next is introducing the concepts of loops.

Then debugging loops!
